Challenge

Trello changed how teams think about project management. But building something like Trello from scratch once cost millions of dollars and years of development time, putting that level of software firmly out of reach for most businesses. And even using Trello today comes with a hidden tax: per-seat pricing that quietly scales against you as your team grows. For a company with 100 people, that's $12,000 a year, just to keep everyone on the same board. Journeyhorizon asked a simple question: What if neither of those things had to be true?

So Chimedeck was born to answer a straightforward question: Why should adding a team member cost money? We wanted to build something as intuitive as Trello but completely open-source with self-hosting options, no vendor lock-in, and AI-agent compatibility built in from day one.

What We Built

Chimedeck is a full-featured Kanban-style project management tool with drag-and-drop boards, task assignment, and progress tracking, everything teams expect from a modern PM tool. Thanks to how rapidly software development has evolved, what once took years and millions can now be done in a fraction of the time and cost. Journeyhorizon built ChimeDeck, a fully functional, production-ready project management platform - in just one month.

The result is a Trello-alternative with smooth, familiar Kanban workflows that teams pick up from day one, no retraining required. It can be self-hosted via a one-line Docker install or run on ChimeDeck's managed cloud. The full codebase is open-source on GitHub. And unlike Trello, it costs the same whether you have 5 users or 500. But what makes ChimeDeck genuinely different is its built-in AI layer, designed not as an afterthought, but as a core part of how the platform works.

Key Highlights

  • Kanban boards & task management: Create and manage boards, lists, and cards visually; assign tasks, set due dates, track progress - everything a team needs to work in an organized manner.
  • Drag-and-drop workflow: Move tasks between columns smoothly, update status instantly, familiar interface helps teams onboard from day one.
  • Team collaboration: Invite members, comment directly on tasks, mention colleagues, and track the entire project progress on a single screen.
  • No per-seat pricing: Invite the entire organization without additional costs
  • Built-in AI agent integration: Connect directly with AI agents like OpenClaw and Hermes, allowing AI to handle repetitive tasks, automate workflows, and run in parallel with the team on the same platform.
  • Self-hosted or cloud: Install a Docker command on macOS, Linux, or Windows; Or use ChimeDeck Cloud with automatic backup and 24/7 support.
  • Fully open-source: The entire codebase is on GitHub; free to audit, extend, or integrate according to your business needs.

Chimedeck started as an internal conviction: that great software shouldn't punish you for growing. We turned that conviction into a fully functional, open-source product, complete with AI-agent integration, flexible deployment, and a live user community.

ChimeDeck is what happens when modern development capabilities meet a real business problem. What once required millions of dollars and years of engineering can now be built in weeks, without cutting corners on quality, performance, or experience. That's the standard Journeyhorizon holds itself to, and the same capability we bring to every custom app project. If your business has a problem that off-the-shelf software can't solve, or is solving it at a price that doesn't make sense. We can build the alternative.
